Budget - £20m Fair Funding Review Loss to York Slammed

Changes which could see York lose £20 million in national funding will not be accepted, the council’s deputy leader has said as the opposition branded them austerity on steroids.

Labour council deputy leader of City of York Council Cllr Pete Kilbane said talks would continue with the Government over proposals which would make York the lowest-funded authority per head by 2028-9.

Council Labour finance spokesperson Cllr Katie Lomas said the Fair Funding Review rightly prioritise deprived areas but there was not enough money to go around, resulting in the difficult outcome.
