We have now announced all of the finalists for the Young Sportsperson of the Year Award at the YO1 Radio Sports Awards. This award celebrates exceptional young athletes who are achieving outstanding success in their sport while balancing education, training and personal development. These finalists have demonstrated talent, dedication and determination well beyond their years.
And the finalists are…
Kacey Lee
Kacey is a two-time world champion kickboxer who has taken the sport by storm in just three years. Representing England and winning multiple gold medals, she has achieved incredible success while balancing her GCSE studies, all while remaining humble and inspiring others.
Lola Barson
Lola is a dedicated gymnast who trains up to 25 hours a week and competes at national level, as well as representing New Zealand on the world stage. Her standout year has included appearances at the British Championships and Junior World Championships.
Lilly Wilkinson
Lilly is a determined athlete who has overcome a diagnosis of scoliosis to continue competing at the highest level. She has represented Great Britain again and achieved silver medals at the World Championships in South Africa.
Jocelyn Dixon
Jocelyn is just 12 years old and already making a huge impact across multiple martial arts disciplines. She has won gold medals at both UK and World Championship level, while also coaching young athletes with additional needs.
YO1 Radio Sports Awards 2026
The YO1 Radio Sports Awards are coming to the big screen for the very first time — landing at Cineworld York IMAX Theatre on the evening of Monday 8th June 2026.
It promises to be an unforgettable night of celebration, entertainment, and recognition for the incredible people who make up Team North Yorkshire. From grassroots heroes to elite performers, these awards exist to shine a spotlight on those who inspire, compete, coach, and give back through sport.
Nominations are now open, and this is your chance to put forward the individuals and teams who deserve to be recognised. Ticket details will be announced soon.
Award Description
This award celebrates the rising stars of York’s sporting community, recognising exceptional talent, dedication, and achievement. Open to individuals aged 18 or under, this category is for young athletes who have achieved success at regional, national, or international level within the last year.
We are looking for nominees who show outstanding commitment to their sport and who represent the future of sporting excellence across North Yorkshire.

YO1 Radio Sports Awards 2026 – Nomination Terms & Conditions

Nominations for the YO1 Radio Sports Awards 2026 are open to individuals, teams, clubs, schools, and organisations based in or representing North Yorkshire.

The nomination period will close at 11:59pm on Tuesday 30th April 2026. Any nominations received after this time will not be considered.

All nominations must be submitted via the official YO1 Radio Sports Awards nomination form. Incomplete or illegible entries may be deemed invalid.

Supporting evidence such as photos, certificates, or documents may be uploaded as part of the nomination. By submitting these materials, you confirm that you have the right to share them and give YO1 Radio permission to use them for judging and promotional purposes.

Nominees may be contacted for verification or additional information as part of the judging process.

Shortlisted nominees will be selected by a judging panel appointed by YO1 Radio. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

YO1 Radio reserves the right to move nominations into an alternative category where appropriate.

Tickets for the YO1 Radio Sports Awards ceremony on Monday 8th June 2026 will be released at a later date. Submitting a nomination does not guarantee a ticket to the event.
