About Olly Hilton

Olly Hilton's Quick Questions

1.       Any hobbies?

Watching football, listening to rock music, drinking Guinness, swimming and musical theatre.

2.       What were you like at school?

A massive attention seeker.

3.       You are given an elephant – what do you do with it? You can’t give it away or sell it.

Sell my car and use it for transport – Considering the amount of time I’ve been standstill on Gillygate, I’d probably get around the centre of York just as quickly on an Elephant as in my car.

4.       You’re stranded on a desert island – what three things can’t you do without?

The internet, a collection of Harold Pinter’s plays and a football.

5.       What inspires you?

People who are driven – I love seeing people who are passionate about something and will do anything to achieve success in it.

 6.       You win a million pounds on the lottery, what do you do??

Buy a lower tier football club and try and do some real life Football Manager.

 7.       What is your favourite word and why?

Diploid. I think it’s a biological word. No idea what it means.

8.       What are you NOT very good at?

Where do I start? Being patient. I am incredibly impatient, it’s terrible. Also, I’m quite tall so I’m rubbish at walking through doors without banging my forehead on the doorway.

9.       If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Time travel, without a doubt, love my history.

 10.   If you were a type of food, what would you be?

A mozzarella stick. Best food there is.

11.   What would the name of your debut album be?

“I should’ve stuck to radio.”

12.   What would we find in your fridge right now?

Two steak pukka pies, some frozen curly fries, an out-of-date cucumber and a lot of cheese.

13.   If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would play the lead role as you?

Probably Stephen Merchant.

14.   You have written a biography – what is it called?

“Don’t bother – I’m not that interesting”

 15.   Your favourite holiday destination and why?

Croatia, by a mile. Beautiful place, specifically Korcula island.

16.   Favourite ice cream flavour

I’m more of a sorbet man, probably a mango sorbet. If we’re going ice cream though, it’d have to be a fruity one, because it needs to be refreshing. I do love Ben and Jerry’s Cookie Dough though.

17.   Your funniest / best joke?

Why does the Danish Navy have barcodes on the sides of their ships? So that they can Scandinavian.

 18.   The quirkiest job you've ever had

I’ve had loads – I was a pot-wash at a pancake house for nearly a year, and a waiter at a seafood restaurant for ages. I reckon my singular day at a warehouse in Birmingham takes it though. You can meet some real characters working in warehouses.

19.   Any middle name(s) you'd rather we didn't know about?

Richard. Sorry, very boring.

20.   Tell us THREE facts about yourself that others might not know

I can rap pretty much every Eminem song in it’s entirety (I was clearly a very bored teenager.)

My hair is rapidly falling out.

I played hockey for Leicestershire when I was younger. We went on tour to India and got absolutely battered in every match.

 Your Favourite THREE films?

The Truman Show

Shaun of the Dead (take your pick from the Cornetto Trilogy).

La Haine

Your Favourite THREE songs?

This is practically an impossible question for me.

If I Had a Gun… – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

Romeo and Juliet – Dire Straits

Country House - Blur

Your Favourite place in YORK and the surrounding area?

The bench on the footpath that goes between Badger Hill and Campus East of the Uni.

Your Favourite place in the world outside of North Yorkshire?

Osgathorpe. Specifically the fields surrounding it. It’s a tiny village in North West Leicestershire, where I grew up. Some brilliant memories attached to Osgathorpe.
