A prop forward, Barnard came through the age group ranks at the local community club Heworth before arriving at the York RLFC Knights.
20-year-old Barnard initially joined the Knights on trial in April 2022.
He made his first-team debut in September in the 74-12 victory over Workington Town.
On signing for the York RLFC, Barnard said: “It’s great to get a deal sorted. You always want to represent your own city and it’s a great opportunity to be playing at a good level, as well.
“I hope I can do well for the team and the fans.”
