York Knights Land Major Signing with Super League Star Paul Vaughan for 2026

Rugby Super League

In a major boost for rugby league in the city, York Knights have confirmed the high-profile signing of Paul Vaughan for the 2026 season, thanks to the continued support of the club’s Squad Builder initiative.

The 34-year-old prop forward, who currently stars for Warrington Wolves, will join the Knights at the LNER Community Stadium next year, bringing with him a glittering career that spans the NRLSuper League, and international competition.

Vaughan, a dual Australian and Italian international, made his debut in the NRL back in 2013 for Canberra Raiders, going on to play for St George Illawarra Dragons and Canterbury Bulldogs before making the move to England in 2023. Since joining Warrington, Vaughan has become a key figure in the squad, featuring prominently in their Betfred Challenge Cup final appearances in both 2024 and 2025.

Speaking on his upcoming move to York, Vaughan said:

“After speaking with Clint (Goodchild), I was really impressed by his energy, passion and vision for the club. Our conversation left me excited about this move which will be great, not just for me, but for my family as well.

Joining the Knights represents a new challenge in a different way for me. I bring a wealth of leadership to the club and I’m looking forward to linking up with the group, connecting with the fans, and being part of what’s building at York.”

York Knights Head Coach Mark Applegarth hailed the signing as a major coup:

“We’re delighted to have a player of Paul’s quality over the line. In my opinion, he’s still one of the best props in Super League. It’s a real statement signing made by the club.

As a coach, I’m looking forward to getting a genuine leader of the pack—he leads by actions too. He’s coming for the right reasons and I think it will help push York to the next level.”

Chairman Clint Goodchild echoed the excitement:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Paul Vaughan to the Club. Paul has a wealth of experience at the highest level, but more importantly, he brings leadership, professionalism, and the kind of cultural impact that will help drive our club forward.

His influence will be felt across the entire group—on and off the field—as we continue to build something special here in York. We’re proud to welcome Paul and his family to our city and our club.”

With Vaughan’s signing, York Knights have made a bold statement of intent for 2026 and beyond, showing they are serious about climbing the ranks and becoming a true force in British rugby league.
