York Knights captain Liam Harris has pledged his future to the club by signing a new deal for the 2026 season, made possible thanks to the support of the Squad Builder initiative.
The 28-year-old half-back, who succeeded Chris Clarkson as captain in 2024, has become a cornerstone of the Knights’ line-up over the past three years. After brief spells with Halifax Panthers and earlier loans from Hull KR (2017) and Hull FC (2019), Harris returned to York permanently in 2022 – and has never looked back.
Known for his sharp kicking game and eye for exploiting gaps, Harris has already clocked up more than 100 appearances in York colours. His performances have earned individual accolades too, including the prestigious Ray French Award for Player of the Match in the 1895 Cup Final at Wembley in June and the Graham Steadman Player of the Year award in 2023.
Head coach Mark Applegarth welcomed the news, praising Harris’ influence both on and off the pitch:
“I’m delighted Liam has re-signed for next year. He is my captain and it’s been great to watch his progress. For me, he’s been one of the players of the year in the Championship and we are a better team when he’s playing. I still think there’s plenty of development left in him and he has the ability to play at the top level. He’ll be a massive part of what we’re building moving forward.”
With Harris leading from the front, Knights fans can look forward to another season of ambition and progression as the club continues to strengthen its Championship credentials.
