York City Baths Club swimmers amongst the medals on the national stage

With the swimming season culminating in a host of national championship events, competitors from York City Baths Club (YCBC) once again made their mark against the cream of British aquatic talent to scoop a handful of medals.

Raya Harrand kicked things off for YCBC by recording a lifetime best time to win the junior girls 50m backstroke final at the Aquatics GB Championships in London. 

The competition then moved to Sheffield for the Aquatics GB Next Gen Summer Championships. Here,Raya was joined by Annabel Edwards, Megan Mills, Eve Parkin, Simon Robson, Stan Sawyer, Samantha Taylor and Alexander Tew for their individual events. Stan, Charles and Alex then teamed up with Zachary Fidan in the boys 4 x 100m freestyle team, with Emily McSeveny completing the girls 4 x 100m medley quartet alongside Eve, Annabel and Samantha. 

Over a week of fierce competition, eight finals were reached, culminating in Stan Sawyer winning silver in the boys 14–15-year-old 200m backstroke final. 

 

The pool action concluded with the Swim England National Summer Meet. Here, Callum Aitken, Annabel Edwards, Nathan Carrington, Zachary Fidan, Raya Harrand, Emmie Horwell, Eve Parkin, Simon Robson, Stan Sawyer, Samantha Taylor, Daniel Tew, Charles Tremayne and Ava Turner all qualifying to compete.Once again, York swimmers battled to eight finals and a clutch of medals.

Stan Sawyer claimed two more silver medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly, Simon Robson scooped silver in the 100m breaststroke, Eve Parkin clinched bronze in the100m backstroke and Charles Tremayne also won bronze in the 50m freestyle.

To round off the summer, Isla Yates and Ellie Rowson flew the YCBC flag at the Swim England National Open Water Championships, securing 15th and 16th place respectively in the 7.5km event.

YCBC Head coach, Josh Spencer, was delighted with the performances, saying: “It was fantastic to see the swimmers step up to the big occasion and producesome tremendous lifetime bests under pressure. Well done to all the athletes who qualified and competed. They’ve worked exceptionally hard and inspired many at the club to follow in their footsteps.”
