York City Announce First Summer Signing: Midfielder Ollie Banks Joins the Minstermen

York City are delighted to announce the arrival of our first summer signing – experienced midfielder Ollie Banks!

The 32-year-old joins the Minstermen on a free transfer following his departure from newly-promoted Chesterfield FC. Banks will officially become a York City player on 1st July.

A product of Rotherham United’s academy, Ollie began his career at his boyhood club before finding his feet at Gainsborough Trinity in 2012. His standout performances earned him a move to FC United of Manchester, where his form caught the attention of Chesterfield – the club he would go on to serve with distinction in two separate spells.

Banks made over 80 appearances during his initial time with the Spireites, before embarking on stints with Oldham Athletic, Tranmere Rovers, and Barrow. In 2022, he returned to Chesterfield, becoming a key figure in their 2023/24 Vanarama National League title-winning campaign.

Now, the battle-hardened midfielder brings his wealth of Football League and National League experience to the LNER Community Stadium, becoming the first piece in City’s summer recruitment puzzle.
