The company started work on repairing a leaking pipe in Finkle Street, Sherif Hutton, on Monday (June 2) – three days after the road had been newly resurfaced.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, said they received a letter about the resurfacing work, organised by North Yorkshire Council.
But the resident said they were not told about the Yorkshire Water work which had “completely blocked” their driveway for three days.
“I came home and couldn’t get into my property,” they said.
Yorkshire Water said the work was carried out with an “immediate roadworks permit” which allows for leaks to be repaired “as and when we locate them”.
But the Finkle Street resident claimed a Yorkshire Water representative visited them “two or three weeks” before the road was resurfaced, adding: “There has been a puddle there for a long time.”
The resident also claimed they told workers carrying out the prior resurfacing work that there was a water leak below the road.
But the resident claimed the workers said they had to complete the resurfacing work regardless of the leak.
