Two solicitors have swapped their legal briefs for running shoes this year, taking on the challenge of completing a half-marathon every month to raise money for York-based café and social enterprise, Chocolate & Co.
Lee Stephens and David Rogers, directors of Bridge Employment Solicitors, are lacing up their trainers to raise funds and awareness for Chocolate and Co, a charity that offers employment and training opportunities to people facing addiction, homelessness or involvement with the criminal justice system.
Based on Lowther Street in the Groves area in the city, the charity operates a café that aims to build purpose, dignity and connection through meaningful work, community-based support and handmade treats.
Speaking about the challenge, Lee said: "Chocolate and Co are making a real difference in people's lives, giving them skills and opportunities to thrive."
"By running a half-marathon every month, we hope to raise funds and inspire others to support this fantastic local organisation."
"When we first met Linda at Chocolate and Co we were immediately impressed by the brilliant work they are doing."
"They provide much-needed help to people who may otherwise fall through the cracks and they deserve as much support as we can give them."
What originated as an idea over a coffee catch-up has now turned into a plan to raise £3000 for Chocolate and Co.
Lee added: "Both David and I have been social runners for a long time and are no strangers to taking on challenges to raise money for charity."
"Throughout the year, we have done a mix of organised events as well as bringing our kit into the office and tackling a half-marathon after a day's work."
The duo have now completed ten half-marathons this year and they will do their 11th in November and 12th in December so they can complete their challenge for this fantastic charity.
The funds David and Lee raise will go to Chocolate and Co to help them continue mentoring, training and creating job opportunities.
The running solicitors say that every donation, big or small "will help build purpose, dignity and a brighter future for people in York."
