The council’s ‘Garden Waste Subscription Scheme’ operates for 40 weeks per year from early March until early December.
Cash-strapped council chiefs announced last August that there would be a charge for green bin collections to help stabilise the authority’s finances.
City of York Council said the annual cost will increase to £49 (£2.45 per collection) this year, up £2.50 from last year.
This new figure is inline with the amount charged by North Yorkshire Council for its garden waste collection service, the city council said.
The £49 covers fortnightly collections as scheduled between March and December.
A 50 per cent discount on the charge (£24.50, or £1.23 per collection) is available for residents in receipt of council tax support or those registered as SMI (severe mental impairment), the council said.
Households are urged to subscribe before Friday, February 21, to ensure they are registered and have received their bin sticker before collections start again in March.
