A York MP has said it's "incredibly sad" that a town in his constituency could lose its only Post Office.
As The Press reported, the Morrisons Daily shop in The Village, Haxby, is set to close on April 16 as part of nationwide cutbacks at the supermarket chain.
Home to Haxby's only Post Office, a spokesperson for the state-owned couriers told The Press: "The store is due to close in mid-April and we are currently finalising the date when the Post Office will close."
Luke Charters, MP for York Outer, said he has called upon Morrisons to prolong the closure, and give time for the Post Office to find an alternative location in Haxby.
He added: "I was informed yesterday about the impending closure of Morrisons Daily and the Post Office in Haxby, scheduled for April 16.
"This is incredibly sad news for those who rely on these establishments for their jobs and daily needs.
