Concerns have been raised over the crowds attracted to York at Christmas time - with a former council chief saying the city risks being a "victim of its own success".
Each year, both Make it York and City of York Council organise the six-week long Christmas Market - which spans across Parliament Street, St Sampson's Square, and Coppergate.
While the market closed on Saturday (December 7) because of Storm Darragh, last Saturday (November 30), York Cycle Campaign member and active travel advocate Andy Farndale cycled into the city centre via Fulford Road and Tower Street.
"I’m coming down Fulford Road, it was completely blocked, I pulled my bicycle onto the pavement and thought ‘this is stupid’," he said.
