The wait was over as finalists gathered at York Racecourse last night, Thursday, for the awards ceremony where families and friends raised a toast to their outstanding achievements alongside award sponsors, including headline sponsor Aviva.
The ceremony was hosted by Claire Pulpher, with York singer songwriter Maggie Wakeling welcoming guests with a beautiful performance of Unstoppable by Sia, and People Help The People, by Birdy.
The Press editor Nigel Burton said: "These awards recognise and reward the good that people do for each other, often going above and beyond behind the scenes for the good of their communities.
"Everyone who made the shortlist deserves to feel very proud of what they have achieved, whether it is selflessly supporting others in need or showing incredible bravery in very difficult circumstances."
Nigel told finalists on the night: "These awards are about you and the things you do. It is your chance to step into the limelight, and for us to say thank you for all you do for the city.
"We have young people who are demonstrating amazing community spirit, who are standing up to prejudice and doing fantastically well on the sporting scene. We have fundraisers who go the extra mile, sometimes literally; health service heroes, and people who have overcome incredible odds to do amazing things.
