Billy Johnson, 27, and Daniel James Butler, 30, left £5,000 in damage behind them as they cycled off with a till drawer from Pairings Wine Bar in Castlegate, York Magistrates' Court heard.
Unknown to them, the drawer had been emptied before the wine bar had been closed and locked for the night.
Today both are in HMP Hull serving prison sentences for their raid.
Both have long records for dishonesty. Johnson had been released from prison less than a month ago and Butler was on a suspended prison sentence imposed just under a month ago, the court heard.
Johnson’s solicitor Neal Kutte said the pair had spent two hours cycling in the city centre and had visited McDonald's before carrying out the burglary.
Kathryn Walters, prosecuting, said the pair cycled up to Pairings Wine Bar in the early hours of Monday morning(January 27).
