Ahead of the five-year-anniversary, The Press caught up with parents of "lockdown babies" to reflect on their experiences.
On July 21, 2020, York-born Tiffany Smith gave birth to her first son Arthur. Just four months earlier she had joined the world in watching events that would change her pregnancy experience dramatically.
"When the [Covid] rumours first started, being pregnant made me more scared because you’re a bit more vulnerable," she said. "There was actually a bit of relief when the lockdown was first announced, because I felt I would be more safe."
Tiffany, then furloughed, said she spent months at home waiting to give birth. She added: "When it came to giving birth, I had to go by myself, I had to wear a mask.
"It was scary because I couldn’t have my husband with me, there were a lot of unknowns."
A 19-hour labour followed. Her husband Craig wasn't allowed to join her side for the first four hours.
