THE largest outdoor shop in Europe has hit a £1 million sales milestone at its York site as its city store celebrates its first anniversary.

Go Outdoors York officially opened at the Vangarde Shopping Park on the outskirts of the city on September 7

last year with brand ambassador and former Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton opening the 125,000-square-foot store.

The building is the old former John Lewis shop which opened in April 2014 and closed during the pandemic, along with seven other John Lewis stores following the Covid 19 lockdowns. More than 200 people lost their jobs at the site. It has been empty ever since.

Since first opening to the public last August, Go Outdoors York has become the brand’s best-performing flagship store, establishing itself as a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts of every kind and a hub for the people of York, hosting community events and product launches.
