"THE ambition is to be the best college in the country."
Those were the words of York College and University Centre principal and chief executive Ken Merry as he launched the college’s new strategic plan for the next five years.
The plan was officially unveiled at special event held with invited guests in The Cookery, the college's on-site restaurant on the Sim Balk Lane campus on Wednesday night(January 15).
Mr Merry took over as acting college boss a year ago, getting the role permanently in March last year.
Launching the plan, which has been ten months in the making, he said it will 'reset ambitions post-Covid' looking ahead from 2025-30.
Set out with four key factors or 'cornerstones' in mind: staff; students and apprentices; sustainability and surroundings (place), at the heart of the document is the brilliant futures pledge. This is unique to York, says Mr Merry, and will mean that, in addition to their qualification, at the end of their course students will each get a gold, silver or bronze certificate to take to employers.
