THE regional boss at a top York developer says problematic planning policies are stopping homes from being built.
Scott Waters, regional managing director for York-based Persimmon said there is a desperate need for the Government to do more to make the local Government planning system quicker and easier.
He was speaking at a round-table event organised by York Outer MP Luke Charters for businesses in his constituency and held at Persimmon's HQ in Fulford.
"We have eight live planning applications in Yorkshire, some of which have been in with councils for years and have had stumbling block after stumbling block," said Mr Waters.
"Despite what some might say, we don't land bank, hold-ups are purely due to getting sites through planning and the delays are completely unnecessary in most circumstances.
"There's talk of it getting easier, but it isn't really filtering through.
"The underlying sales demand is there, it's keeping up with that demand and bringing the sites forward and that's down to planning delays and it's a national problem we have got - a problem with planning policies.
"Things have improved from where they were, but it's about taking it to that next level now."
