RUNNERS have taken to the start line at the return of a fundraising event which is more than a decade old.
R U Taking the P? – a 5km event raising awareness of prostate cancer and raising funds for York Against Cancer – set off from just outside Rowntree Park on the River Ouse side this morning (June 22).
The event was started by The Lord Mayor of York Cllr Martin Rowley BEM in the presence of members of York’s Civic Party and The York Guard.
York Against Cancer is one three local charities supported by the Lord Mayor of York and The Sheriff of York.
The R U Taking the P? event was established by Brian Hughes and had run for more than a decade prior to a pause from 2019, raising over £200,000 so far, with a hope for more than £14,000 from donations and sponsorship this year.
Brian also founded York Knavesmire Harriers and their Brass Monkey half marathon and was inspired to fundraise after a friend lost his life to prostate cancer.
