RETIREMENT cottages could be built in a York village next door to an existing larger scheme of 45 apartments from the same developer.
Churchill Living has applied to build eight cottages in The Village, Wigginton, which would include the demolition of a bungalow on the site to make way for the proposed development.
The eight two-bedroom homes with gardens in the new scheme on a 0.18 Hectare site would be arranged in two blocks, made up of two and one-and-a-half storey buildings.
Four cottages would face The Village and the others would face Churchill's 45-apartment development from where access to the eight parking spaces on the new plot would be gained.
The height and spread of the cottages are "designed to harmonise with the surrounding built environment", according to design documents issued with Churchill's application to City of York Council.
Each property would have small front gardens and private gardens at the back, and plans said "appropriate distances are maintained with the adjacent properties, including the Churchill Living Development."
