POLICE were called in after an activist group led a protest outside a York MP's constituency surgery.
On Saturday (June 14) the York Palestine Assembly (YPA) led a protest outside St Oswald's Church in Fulford where York Outer Labour MP Luke Charters was holding his monthly surgery.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed they attended the protest after concerns were raised over Mr Charters' safety. The YPA said the force sent three unmarked police cars.
A Labour party spokesperson said that, on Gaza, Mr Charters "believes the situation there is currently intolerable".
The YPA described their protest as an "important action", as they feel that Mr Charters has not represented his constituents in parliament over their concerns on the ongoing war in Gaza, something which has earned Israel international criticism.
"Luke has blocked constituents on social media who voice views supportive of Palestine and refused to meet with them," a representative for the YPA said.
