Now officers in York will be going on live TV to appeal for information in the wake of the spate of gold thefts.
On Friday, March 21, officers will be on BBC Crimewatch Live. They will be highlighting investigations into 10 burglaries that have occurred at properties in the east side of York, all of which involve gold jewellery.
The force said the first theft occurred on Saturday, January 21, and most recent was last Sunday (March 16).
"All the victims are predominantly of Asian heritage," a police spokesperson said. "It’s believed that addresses are being targeted and the suspect(s) are using surveillance to scope out the property prior to committing the break-in.
"In Fulford, one victim had over £100,000 worth of gold stolen. This property was also sentimental as the jewellery had been accumulated over generations by the victim’s daughter and it was due to be worn at her up-coming wedding.
