More than 100 people turned up to a drop-in session held by the people behind the York Central development on Wednesday (May 7) at St Barnabas Church in Jubilee Terrace off Leeman Road from 2pm -8pm.
The York Central partnership is currently working on the 45-hectare site, which is one of the largest city centre brownfield regeneration sites in England on land behind York Railway Station.
The meeting set out what will happen after the imminent closure of Leeman Road as it stands and the opening of a new road which reroutes through the new development. A date has not yet been set for the closure, but it's understood it could take place in May.
The new spine road has been laid through the site - stretching from a junction at Water End to Cinder Street - which would run behind the station - and then to Leeman Road Tunnel.
The new road - Park Street - will feature a landscaped 2m-wide pedestrian footpath and a segregated 3.5m-wide, two-way cycle route. It will have a 20mph speed limit.
