Improvements to the A1237 York Outer Ring Road, including the dualling of the existing carriageway between the A19 roundabout up to and including Little Hopgrove Roundabout, were approved by a City of York Council planning committee on Tuesday, March 19.
Other improvements include the provision of a 5.1km shared-use cycle and pedestrian route, signalised crossing facilities for active travel users, two over-bridges and six underpasses for pedestrians and cyclists.
Activists from Extinction Rebellion and York Green Party raised concerns over the plans, claiming it would increase traffic congestion and increase pollution.
