Plans for the major expansion of a town north of York have been recommended for approval - despite nearly 350 letters objecting to the scheme.

A 2023 application for outline planning permission to City of York Council from Barratt and David Wilson Homes

and Vistry Homes to build up to 700 houses north of Haxby will go before city councillors on June 19 with a recommendation to approve from city planning officers.

The co-applicants said 30 per cent of the homes would be affordable and it had “engaged extensively” over a long period of time with the local community and planning officers on key issues included in the proposal.

Included in the plans are a 50 place nursery, sports pitches, allotments, gypsy and traveller pitches and play spaces.

The plans have undergone a number of revisions since the original application.

As reported by The Press, amendments to plans have included the fluctuation of the proposed number of homes between 640 and 800, and the removal of an on-site primary school.

The precise make-up of the house types and size would be established after a decision is made, design documents said, but outlined an anticipated mix of homes from one to five bedrooms.
