North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has made “significant” improvements since a damning inspection three years ago, its chief fire officer has said.
Jonathan Dyson welcomed the findings from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) following its latest inspection report published today (Wednesday, June 18).
The service was inspected between December 2024 and January 2025.
It followed HMICFRS’ 2022 inspection which deemed the service to be 'inadequate' at efficiently keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks, and found it must make urgent improvements.
HMICFRS has now officially recognised the service as being ‘good’ at understanding fire and other risks, preventing incidents and effectively responding to fires and emergencies.
In total, the inspectors graded the service good in six out of the 11 areas of inspection, with the remaining five graded as ‘adequate’ – a new grade which has been introduced between requires improvement and good.
