Those were the words of Glen Kilvington project director at Sisk which has coordinated efforts to help revamp a much-loved community allotment in York.
On Friday (July 25) the community turned out at a barbecue along with the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Martin Rowley, and the Civic Party to join the Friends of Leeman Park off Water End in the city to see the work that's been going on at the park.
Sisk - who are working on nearby York Central, were looking for an opportunity to leave a legacy in the neighbourhood following the construction of the York Central road, and heard about the community allotment project.
They arranged for three groups of design students from York College to produce proposals, which they presented to the Leeman Park volunteer group.
They then, along with contractors Rouse, Gavin Jones and Caddick, arranged to clear the site and for all the materials and construction of new raised beds.
"We are delighted with the quality and we expect the new beds to last much more than a decade," said David Finch, Leader of the Friends of Leeman Park.
"We are now far more accessible at last."
