Those are the words of Tanya Aston, 43, who on April 16 was dining in Hickory's Smokehouse in York when she suddenly found herself choking and unable to breathe.
"We’d been there a while, we had a few drinks and then our food came. We had a massive platter of steak to share," Tanya told The Press.
"I ate my first piece of steak and I kept trying to swallow, but I realised it wasn’t going down."
Tanya said she quickly started panicking. "I looked at my friend but couldn’t speak, so I pointed at my back," she said. "My friend started swearing and panicking as well. I couldn't breathe."
One member of staff from Hickory's tried to help Tanya, before Jason Tobin - a trained first aider and the restaurant's general manager - "came out of nowhere".
She said: "He did the Heimlich manoeuvre on me but it didn’t work, he did it again, and I eventually started to cough."
After a few minutes, Tanya was able to breathe freely again.
"It was terrifying," said Tanya. "I was just really pleased that he knew what he was doing, he saved my life."
