Discover Network - Explore how our brain responds to the environment we're in and the way we respond to activities in Selby Abbey. NETWORK in the Abbey 10am - 4pm every day until 21st November.
‘Love is indeed, at the root, the product of the firings of neurones and release of hormones’ Julian Baggini.
Ever been curious to see inside someone’s mind, listen to their thoughts and watch the messages move through the neurons in the brain? With this large-scale immersive experience you can do just that. Neurons take our outside sense experience and connect it with thoughts and ideas, this process makes us who we are, our identity.
The Abbey is a special place, we know this but why? How does it feel for you? What do you sense when you enter? What stories do you have about this special place? What happens here? Watch as the neuron shows how we feel when we’re in the Abbey and participate in activities.
The installation was created by Gemma Wood, an artist who has worked with the Abbey before. It's been created in collaboration with Broken Orchestra and Leeds University to create an accurate representation of the way our brain reacts to external stimulus. There's a sound track that features noises from the Abbey and the people who make it the place that it is. It can be listened to in the installation, but also through this link - https://soundcloud.com/the-broken-orchestra/network-being-now-here-selby-abbey-soundscape?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
