HOMOPHOBIC and transphobic hate crimes in York almost doubled in just a year, according to a worrying new report.
Between November 2022 and October 2023, North Yorkshire Police recorded 111 such crimes in York, up from just 64 the previous year: a 73 per cent rise.
Jake Furby of the York LGBT Forum admitted he was ‘not surprised’ by the figures, given a national rise in intolerance towards trans people.
