North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say they were called at 11.37pm on Thursday (September 11) after a man went into the river Foss at Tower Street.
A service spokesman said: “Crews from Acomb assisted paramedics on scene with reports of a man who had entered the river Foss.
“The man was brought to safety using a 9 metre ladder after he had climbed onto a ledge below. The casualty was left in the care of paramedics.”
