North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say they were called at 1.44am on Wednesday (July 2) to Ouse Bridge in the city centre.
A service spokesman said: “A full water rescue turnout in York which involved two appliances along with the water rescue boat capabilities responded to reports of a man was seen jumping into the river.
“Upon our arrival the man was out of the water and left in hands of police.”
