HUNDREDS of people have voiced their views on the York school that has installed shutters to prevent pupils using toilets during lessons.
As reported by The Press, Archbishop Holgate’s School in Hull Road has installed pull-down shutters in front of the main toilet areas to ensure students can’t use them when they should be in the classroom.
Head teacher Lucie Pond said the 'safeguarding’ measures were taken because the toilets are unsupervised during lessons and there has been an increase in vandalism in those areas.
Students are encouraged to take comfort breaks during the morning and lunch breaks when the main toilets are unlocked and monitored. An accessible toilet is also available in every building, in areas where staff are present, for anyone who needs it throughout the day.
