Leaders of York BID, Hospitality Association York and York High Street Forum have come together after City of York Council
put forward proposals to introduce a five per cent increase in most parking fees and charges, including an extra 10 per cent for parking on Fridays, Saturdays and during events.
The announcement comes after a consultation over the proposals ended on January 1.
However, York BID's executive director Andrew Lowson said the consultation gave no time for debate.
"It’s disappointing that after years of the York BID trying to engage with City of York Council on a long-term strategy for accessing the city centre these huge rises in car parking fees drop on the business community with no time for meaningful conversation, " he said.
Responding to the criticism, the council's executive member for transport, Cllr Kate Ravilious, said: "We have listened to businesses by increasing the discount available through use of the Minster Badge from 10 per cent to 30 per cent which, if used by regular customers the BID refers to, will easily offset the increase in the cost of the Minster Badge.
