AN inquest has opened today (September 11) into the death of a man found dead at a York village playground.

Speaking at Northallerton Coroner's Court, coroner Jon Heath opened the inquest into the death of Owain Gordon Stephen Jones, 41, of Naburn in York who died on Monday, August 11.

Mr Heath told the court that Mr Jones was found at the playpark behind Naburn Village Hall and recorded a provisional cause of death as hanging.

He adjourned the hearing to a later date.

As The Press previously reported, North Yorkshire Police said at the time that at about 5.50pm on Monday, August 11 they were called by a concerned member of the public to reports of an assault at a property in Naburn.

A woman found with a serious head injury was treated at the scene before being taken by air ambulance to hospital.

A police spokesman said the suspect had left the scene, but the body of a man was found at a nearby playpark. Officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with his death, he added.

The play park behind the Village Hall in Vicarage Lane, reopened the same day but remained quiet apart from the occasional dog walker passing by.
