North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say they were called alongside the police and paramedics to the river Foss close to Clifford’s Tower in the early hours this morning (January 30).
A service spokesman said: “Acomb and York crews attended the scene at 3.27am where members of the public reported a man in the river up to his waist.
“Fire crews set up a 9m ladder while male self-rescued by walking out of the river.
“A man in his early 20s, and believed intoxicated, was left with police and ambulance.”
