Brian Ledger from Copmanthorpe told The Press that two of the bus shelters in Copmanthorpe were removed from their stops in mid-August
and has questioned the decision to take them down before they were ready to be replaced.
However, a spokesperson for City of York Council said the shelters would be replaced in October – two months after they were removed - as part of a change of contracts with shelter suppliers.
The shelters on Top Lane and Hallcroft Lane in Copmanthorpe were removed by the council in mid-August with Brian saying that he had heard that they would be replaced with electronic screens, but not when the replacement would take place.
He said: “The bus didn’t turn up, but the rain did. There’s been so many cancellations, so the shelter is really missed and it’s been weeks now.
“Why don’t they put them up where there isn’t a shelter already there – like at the shops - or just wait until they can replace them? It just beggars belief.”
His concerns were echoed by fellow Copmanthorpe resident David Kirkham who said the removal was causing a lot of disruption to residents who travel to Leeds or into York for work and those who need to use the shelters whilst waiting.
