Callum Graham had an American Akita with him during the prolonged incident in a parked car at a north-east holiday site, said Nathan Hudson, prosecuting.
He kicked, punched and head-butted his then partner. He also "let" the dog bite her during the attack, the court heard.
She was left with bruises, swellings and other injuries.
Graham, 29, of Giles Avenue, Heworth, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to his partner, having a dog dangerously out of control that injured his partner and criminal damage to an interior car door handle.
York magistrates told him that the offence involving the dog was so serious their powers were insufficient because sentencing guidelines suggested a sentence of two years before taking into account the timing of a defendant’s plea and other matters.
