Cornish Bakery in Colliergate has been closed since firefighters were called to the premises on the evening of Wednesday, January 29.
Mat Finch, the national bakery chain’s managing director, told The Press that no one was inside the bakery at the time of the fire and tenants of a flat above the premises were safely evacuated.
“We are relived to report that no one was injured,” he said.
Mr Finch added: “Fortunately, no one was inside the bakery at the time, and thanks to the swift response of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was very quickly brought under control.”
He said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
The Press previously reported that the counter area of the shop looks to be mostly intact with smoke damage concentrated on the ceiling.
