A son “did not regret” murdering his father in a North Yorkshire town, a report has said.

Lukasz Lukasik died by suicide in HMP Hull while awaiting sentence for murdering his father, Jerzy Lukasik, in Selby on December 29, 2020.

He had been due to receive a life sentence after pleading guilty to murder on May 14, 2021. He also admitted trying to murder his mother, Maria Lukasik, in Finkle Street and causing actual bodily harm to his sister, Monika Lukasik, in Charles Street.

The 36-year-old, of Charles Street, was found dead in his prison cell on May 27, 2021.

A report into Lukasik's death by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman said he was “aware that he was facing a long prison sentence and did not regret his offence”.

Its report said Lukasik told a nurse the day after he was remanded to HMP Hull that he had post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) “caused by a history of physical abuse from his father”.

At a hearing at Leeds Crown Court on May 14, 2021, the Recorder of Leeds, Judge Guy Kearl KC heard that a psychiatrist instructed by the defence team had examined Lukasik after he was arrested in December 2020.

His barrister, Nicholas Lumley, then QC, told the judge that Lukasik’s mental state did not provide him with a defence to the charges. Lukasik then pleaded guilty to murder, attempted murder and actual bodily harm.

Speaking via a video link from prison, Lukasik said guilty three times in a quiet but firm voice.
