A SCHOOL in York is celebrating after being gifted a new minibus.

The Bingo Association has donated a Variety Sunshine Coach to Applefields school in Bad Bargain Lane in Burnholme, marking a significant milestone: the 38th coach funded as part of their ongoing support for Variety, the Children’s Charity.

This latest donation contributes to a remarkable £2 million raised by the association over the past six years.

The coach was officially presented by Miles Baron, chief executive of The Bingo Association, during a special ceremony attended by the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Martin Rowley and Daryl Boothroyd from Clifton Bingo club in York.

Applefields is a secondary school for students with additional needs and The Bingo Association is the trade association for all land-based licensed bingo operators in Great Britain.

Mr Baron: "Applefields want their students to own their futures and provide lessons which develop their academic and life skills; the staff work hard to ensure support and guidance for long-term student development and success.

"Safety, happiness and the well-being of everyone in the school is at the forefront of the school’s philosophy, and the staff work hard to encourage this.

"The Sunshine Coach will enable the students to engage in enriching opportunities which support their studies and help develop their very important life skills.

"Variety’s Sunshine Coaches play a vital role in enabling schools like Applefields to offer enriching experiences outside the classroom.
