Bosses at discount retailer The Works say they have had their eye on a location for ‘some time’ now. The 1,700 sq ft store is in the former EE unit at Monks Cross - in between Regatta and Pizza Hut – and will be the fourth store in the city for the retailer.
The new unit has brought seven new jobs to the area.
The Works offers customers a variety of items with a store divided into four zones: books, arts, crafts and hobbies, stationery, and toys and games.
They also offer character items – such as Peppa Pig, Hello Kitty, and the Hunger Games – in addition to outdoor toys for children.
A spokesperson for The Works said: “We are thrilled to be opening a brand-new store in York at Monks Cross Shopping Park which is a hive of retail activity and a location we have had our eyes on for some time.
“At The Works, our ambition is to become the favourite destination for affordable, screen-free activities for the whole family and our stores play a very important part in this. We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers through the doors of our newest store!”
