North Yorkshire Police say that on Monday (March 10) they received a call reporting that a 10-year-old girl was followed home from school by a man at approximately 3.15pm that day.
The girl was walking home from Archbishop of York’s CE Junior School in Bishopthorpe, and was walking in Sim Balk Lane, when she became aware of the unknown man, who appeared to be following her.
The man did not approach or speak to the girl, but appeared to follow her as she continued her journey along the cycle track towards Knavesmire Woods.
He is described as white, aged around 60 years old, with shaved short white hair and distinctive black eyebrows.
At the time, he was wearing a checked shirt underneath a navy, Harrington-style jacket with green and burgundy horizontal stripes on the front, black trousers and black shoes.
A police spokesman said: “We have been carrying out enquiries to establish the identity of the man, and these enquiries remain ongoing.
“We’re appealing to the man to come forward and to anyone who can help us identify him, to contact us.
“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please call 101 and pass information for incident number 12250043414.
“Local policing teams will continue to provide an increased presence in the area.”
