Adam Charles Robertson Kent, 59, was found dead in the Tadcaster Road area on the morning of Thursday, January 30, Alison Norton, assistant coroner for York and North Yorkshire, said.
She opened an inquest into Mr Kent’s death today (Thursday, February 27) at Northallerton Coroners' Court.
The hearing heard that Mr Kent’s body was found by a member of the public.
Ms Norton said the cause of death was hanging.
Mr Kent, who worked as a joiner, had suffered with his mental health for many years, the inquest heard.
A coroner's officer report read at the hearing stated that Mr Kent’s wife said he had gone out and she assumed he had left for a bike ride.
She went out to look for him after he did not return.
Not long after, police came to their home in York and told Mrs Kent that her husband had been found dead, Ms Norton said.
