Signs have been placed in the window of the Rio Brazilian Steakhouse, Bridge Street, just 17 months after opening.
The closure notice read: "We regret to announce that Rio Brazilian Steakhouse York has now closed. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused."
The Bridge Street site - which opened in September 2023 - was the seventh Rio branch in their portfolio. The restaurant's website says that a branch in Sunderland will be opening soon.
Customers have been told that all gift vouchers remain valid at Rio Brazilian Steakhouse's sister restaurant Tomahawk Steakhouse, in Lendal Cellars.
Once rated as York's sixth favourite restaurant on TripAdvisor, the rodizio style Rio Brazilian Steakhouse offered an all-you-can-eat meal with a salad bar. Some 50 jobs were said to have been created when the restaurant opened.
