A drink and drug driver has been banned from the roads after crashing his BMW into a parked car in a residential York street.

Timothy Jason Starkie was over the legal alcohol limit and “well over” the prescribed limit for cocaine and cannabis when the crash happened in Tang Hall Lane on Sunday, January 5, North Yorkshire Police said.

CCTV footage captured at about 12.49am shows Starkie's white BMW ploughing into a parked Hyundai SUV. The BMW then rolls away from the parked Hyundai backwards before coming to a stop.

Starkie, 33, of Tang Hall Lane, pleaded guilty to drink driving and two counts of drug driving at York Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 16. North Yorkshire Police said it was his third similar conviction.

He was banned from the roads for three years and three months at the same court on Thursday (June 12). On top of the ban, he was handed a year-long community order, ordered to complete 150 days of unpaid work, 20 days of rehabilitation, and he must pay £114 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

North Yorkshire Police said Starkie was found to be over the legal drink drive limit when breathalysed at the scene of the crash by officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving then taken to hospital for medical checks.

Blood tests taken in hospital revealed that Starkie was also over the prescribed limit for both cannabis and cocaine, North Yorkshire Police said.
