Man seriously injured after being attacked and robbed in York

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information following a serious assault and robbery in York.

A man in his 50s was attacked while sitting on a bench near Scarborough Bridge at around 2pm on Monday, 25 August.

He suffered severe facial and head injuries and was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery. He remains in hospital in a serious condition.

During the assault, the victim was also robbed of money.

An investigation is under way, with officers having attended the scene and reviewed CCTV footage. However, detectives are urging anyone with further information, or anyone who may have CCTV covering the area at the time of the incident, to come forward.

Detective Constable William Robertson, who is leading the investigation, said:

“This was a brutal and unprovoked attack which has left a man with life-changing injuries. We are determined to bring those responsible to justice, but we need the public’s help. If you saw anything or have any footage from around Scarborough Bridge that afternoon, please get in touch.”
