A 39-year-old man from Malton has been arrested following a high-speed police pursuit that began in the Selby area and ended in Norton.
The drama unfolded at around 9.40pm on Tuesday 29 July 2025, when a white Audi A3 made off from Roads Policing Officers on the A1041 near Camblesforth.
The vehicle fled east into the Humberside Police area, initially evading a stinger device, before heading back towards North Yorkshire. It was resighted at 9.55pm on the A614 near Shiptonthorpe, travelling via Tibthorpe and Wetwang.
Multiple police units were deployed, including the police helicopter, and a second stinger was successfully deployed at North Grimston at 10.14pm, deflating all four tyres. The Audi came to a stop in Norton just four minutes later.
The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of:
-
Failing to stop for police
-
Dangerous driving
-
Driving while unfit through drink or drugs
He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from the route – particularly those who saw a man fleeing the scene in Norton at around 10.20pm.
