York Central MP Rachel Maskell has launched her 'One York' campaign, titled #OurThreeWords.
The campaign asks everyone in York to give three words that they feel best describe the city.
It seeks to bring the city together and encourage a shared sense of pride and identity.
MP Rachel Maskell's three chosen words are: 'community, inclusion and caring'.
Speaking on her new campaign, York Central MP Rachel Maskell said: "There is so much that makes us proud of York, and in launching our One York campaign #OurThreeWords, I am asking everyone in our city, individuals, schools, community groups, services, charities, and businesses to determine which three words best describe the city that we live, study, and work in.
"I spoke about the launch of One York in the House of Commons and am so pleased to see such a positive reaction from people wanting to get involved and share their values. Please check out oneyork.org to find out more and to add your own three words."
You can submit your three words here.
All submitted words will be collected into a WordCloud and will be shared back with the people of York.
The 'One York' campaign includes a group of influential people from businesses, institutes and organisations around the city.
One of which is The University of York's Vice Chancellor, Charlie Jeffery, who said: "We work together with our city partners on a number of initiatives - the award-winning York Festival of Ideas being one such example - to bring our community together, share meaningful ideas, build local pride, and make new and lasting connections with each other. As a University dedicated to public good, we look forward to hearing what others value about our great city."
Many of the city's lead community voices have had their say too.
Chief Executive Officer for York Carers Centre, Sharron Smith said: “This is a great initiative to help highlight and celebrate the amazing people we have in our city and the kindness that brings our community together.”
York Foodbank Manager, Adam Raffell said: “In our experience, York is a city where people care for others and it’s encouraging to reflect on this fact together with #OurThreeWords.”
York LGBT Forum believe that: "Our city is strongest when everyone feels a true sense of belonging. For us, York means Equality, Community and Belonging, values that ensure LGBTQ+ people and all communities can flourish together.”
